Interview with THE JUNKETTES

Interview and introduction of Verena Grotto

Take three beautiful girls from Madrid, their love for art and music, their passion for discovering new sounds from the UK, especially from Southend, and other eastern European cities. Then put them in a cosmopolitan, fashionable, underground city like London, where the inspirations from the artistic world come from. And here you have the perfect collective of: JUNKETTES. As a big admiration I feel for these girls, for trying to DO something to change what think it could better or improve, and do not just complain, as most of the youth do, I feel almost ‘obligated’ to present them to all of you, and what better way to do it then with their own words.

Our ages sum up to : 67

We currently live in the white chapel of London.

WHAT DO YOU DO EXACTLY?
What we exactly want to do: “CHANGE”.
We are inspired in those whose innovate in vision and sound.
Its our need to spread the change to cities like Madrid that lack the “noveau underground.”

WHEN AND HOW EVERYTHING STARTED?
The connection that unifies The Junkettes as a collective is incredible and indescribable. We started off by being victims to the nights of “nasti club” located in the yellow illuminated district of “Malasaña.” With urge to change a monotone night we began to slowly make our path through the dirt. Djing new sounds all the way from the uk underground movement, as well as from other eastern European cities, getting as far away as possible from the commercial noise that is intoxicating the drunken ears.

Later the same year in 2006 we traveled to London where we went out to Southend on Sea a town where it all comes from, to expect the unexpected “ experimental circle club.” Our post emotions still remain from that night, it was the big push off to lead us to where we are now.

WHICH WAS THE FIRST BAND YOU CONTACTED?
On Thursday the 12th of April Boys of Brazil from London, UK
Played our first promoted night at Astoria, Madrid.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE BAND?
The Kills, Radiohead, Bjork, Portishead, The normal, Ulterior, Devendra Banhart, Alela Diane, Daniel Johnston, These New Puritans, Jesús and Marychain, and of course Joy division?

AND THE ONE YOU HAVE A GOOD FRIENDSHIP WITH?

FROM WHAT DO YOU TAKE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR STYLE?
Symbiosis

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?
Like an animal making love to a plant.

YOUR DREAMS WHEN YOU WERE CHILDREN?
Collective number one: A painter, a chef, a teacher, a photographer, ummm what ealse, i want to be an inventor!
Collective number two: a muse , a writer, a visual language of beauty, Fashion art director.
Collective number three: lives in a Fol. You universe.
